Test three food innovations at ImpactFest

On the 15th of November three impact startups are testing their food innovation at ImpactFest. The food startups are Edibles, Freggies and Farmvent. The tests are led by Innofest and are helping them to collect crucial data to validate their prototypes. 

Innofest ensures that the step to the market is successful for more and more startups. Nine out of ten innovations fail, in many cases because a prototype has not been sufficiently tested before it’s launched in the market. This costs entrepreneurs a lot of time, money and energy. That’s why Innofest links these innovations to a test location in the real world, such as ImpactFest. 

What can you test and taste?

Each year, 3.5 billion disposable cups are used in The Netherlands. This number goes up to 7 billion when it comes to single-use cups and food packaging worldwide. Not to mention single use tableware besides straws, chopsticks, plates, bowls, knives, forks and spoons… offers a solution that doesn’t have to be thrown away, because you can eat it. Not hungry? You can simply throw it away with a clean conscience due to the products’ compostability. At ImpactFest the entrepreneurs behind are testing if the people using (and potentially eating) the cup enjoy the product, and if the cup is easy to use for baristas.


Farmvent makes it possible to grow your own food in a vertical indoor farm. This way, you have fresh, healthy food accessible for your company’s kitchen, store or restaurant. It’s an easy and automated way of farming that reduces the food miles and tackles the food waste problem, by bringing the production process closer to home. The entrepreneurs behind Farmvent want to see how people react to their new way of farming. 


Chef Mike is the big brain behind the snacks from Freggies. He’s the son of a butcher and a former American Football player, born in the Netherlands and raised in the Caribbean. From a young age, he was surrounded by tasteful food. Caribbean cuisine is known for its many taste variations, but unfortunately also for its use of saturated fat, and lots of fish and meat. Chef Mike therefore set out to find an easy and balanced lifestyle after his sports career. He then discovered all the benefits of a plant based diet. As a result of his search, he founded Freggies: meal components and finger food, with the power of vegetables, fibers, spices and herbs. At ImpactFest, Mike’s ready to find out if the current menu is ready (and willing) to use plant based options.
