DemocracyDrinks: Investing in Women, Investing in Democracy

Humanity Hub, Fluwelen Burgwal 58, 2511 CJ, Den Haag, Zuid-Holland

For this next edition of the #DemocracyDrinks, we want to highlight International Women's Day. In line with the UN Women's theme of 'Investing in Women' we will reflect on what investing in women means for democracy. Acknowledging that whenever women are under threat, so are democracy, peace and stability, Democracy Drinks the Hague is teaming up with WIIS - Women in International Security Netherlands to bring additional perspectives on the topic.

Speakers:

Sabra Bano, Director of Gender Concerns International

Ella van den Heuvel, Lieutenant Colonel

Our speakers will look at what investing women means from different lenses, from the local, national and international perspectives, including personal experiences.

We hope you will join us for what promises to be a fascinating discussion.

What are #DemocracyDrinks?

Our #DemocracyDrinks bring together democracy advocates, thinkers and enthusiasts to connect in an informal setting. As a valuable opportunity for networking, the event will be all about making new contacts and catching up with people you know. You can test new ideas; plan common initiatives; and find moral support and inspiration.

#DemocracyDrinks were launched by Defend Democracy in Brussels in 2018. And, since then, the idea has taken off. #DemocracyDrinks have taken place around the world, including in Washington DC, Berlin, Kathmandu and The Hague.

Our previous #DemocracyDrinks in The Hague have attracted a lively mixture of people from NGOs, international institutions, think tanks and national government, among others.

The event series in The Hague is a collaboration between the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD), the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC) and The Hague Humanity Hub.

#DemocracyDrinks brings together democracy advocates, thinkers and enthusiasts at informal networking events. It is a great way of making new contacts and catching up with people you know; for testing ideas and planning actions; for moral support and inspiration. Feel free to invite friends and colleagues that work on or are interested in defending values like democracy, rule of law, human rights… We hope to see you there!
